Rameswaram is considered as the holiest place in India and situated in Pamban Island. This place has special significance to Hindus as it is one of the Char Dham, a must visit holy place. Every visitor would admire the temple corridor which has 1200 carved sandstone pillars. The ceiling is carved as lotus and painted in colours. In Gandhamadhana Parvatham temple, where footprints of Lord Rama are seen. Tirupullani is the nearby town , dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Lord Rama constructed the Sethu bridge to Srilanka from here. Uttarakosmanagai is another town, where the celestial wedding of Lord Shiva and Parvathi took Place. The Maragadha lingam in Uttarakosamangai is always adorned with Sandal paste except on Arudra day. Danushkodi, the bas relief land, has few ruined buildings. Arichalmunai is the point where the Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal meet. There are few options available for adventurists like Kite Surfing, Kayaking, Snorkeling in Rameswaram. There is also a bird Sanctuary at Arichalmunai, which attracts Flamingos and other migratory birds during the season. Pamban bridge is the oldest sea over rail bridge.
